Yann Monel

Yann Monel began his career as a gardener at the Du Breuil school. His interest in gardening inspired him to take up photography and writing. Thirteen years ago, to mark the new millennium, he organised the first city-wide plant exchange, 'Le Troc Vert' (Green Barter), in Montreuil-sous-Bois with his neighbourhood. A great success, it was the first of its kind and spawned many imitators each year. He named his image production company Humus in homage to the fundamental matrix that he constantly observes in his garden. The name also evokes fertile ground for reflection on the representation of gardens and the creation of books, in terms of both content and form.
