The Suzanne urban farm is the first "showcase" of Cultures en Ville's know-how and expertise in urban agriculture. Located in the heart of the Parc Omnisport Suzanne Lenglen in Paris (15th), it was awarded as part of a call for projects by the City of Paris, with the support of ChartierDalix, the Agence de l'Eau Seine-Normandie, Bpifrance and the Région Île-de-France.
Two roofs have been made available for horticulture:
- Le “champ de Suzanne" is the production roof: on a surface of 570 m², about fifty varieties of plants have been planted to ensure a seasonal and natural production of fruits, vegetables and herbs.
- The "Ferme Suzanne", which is open to the public, is located a few steps from the field and covers an area of 860 m² dedicated to the reception of visitors, the sale of products (through the "La Ruche qui dit Oui!" network), themed visits and workshops, and corporate events.
Ferme Suzanne follows the main principles of permaculture, with a low-tech, circular approach. Designed and built entirely by Cultures en Ville, it is positioned as a shortcut to food and, more broadly, gardening practices for urban dwellers.
In collaboration with Cultures en Ville, and in line with our research on biodiverse walls, we propose to develop an autonomous and sustainable façade system on the roof of the Suzanne farm that will allow the local flora and fauna to establish themselves in the long term, without the need for maintenance or special technical skills, while integrating their evolution over time.
The primary wooden structure is clad with a series of handcrafted wooden modules whose planks are taken from offcuts, then assembled and embedded to create landings to maintain the substrate and flora. The shape of these elements ensures continuity and exchange of substrate - from the bottom to the top of the walls - as well as water flow over the entire height of the wall.
This pavilion, a demonstration object combining self-construction and reuse, is a real working tool for the Cultures en Ville team and a reception and educational space open to all.
